Fixe & Chill

ES: Fixe: chévere, bacana,

EN: “Fixe”: (slang) means "cool" or "awesome." It's one of the most commonly used words among Portuguese people when talking about something they like or enjoy.

This song is the result of an awesome week I spent at the European Vocal Camp organized by the Modern Vocal Training Academy.

During the camp, I got to take some amazing classes, learning from talented vocal experts across a variety of styles including Blues & Scat with Sammantha Noella, Arabic Choir with Krystel Dib, and How to Make a Song Your Own with Julie Miles.

Through Julie's class, I explored the art of improvisation, changing lyrics, and adding my own flair. So, for my open mic performance, I decided to put everything I’d learned together. I incorporated extended scat, fluid vocal runs, and the emotive power of Arabic scales to give the piece a personal sound vibe, blending Western blues improvisation with the mystique of Arabic melodic structures.

It was an incredibly fun challenge to adapt the song, change the lyrics and bring together all these different styles and influences into one performance in a 30-minute coaching session and just a 5-minute rehearsal before the show!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did performing it. Thanks for listening!

Special thanks to Eimear for coaching and accompanying me with the piano, Anika and Velin for helping with the phone recordings, Tom Hazel for the guidance with the audio edits, and mixing, Eric EQ for the master, and to the amazing and supportive audience!
